He died on New Years Day 1953 on the back seat of his Cadillac on the way to a concert. Herman P. Willis, better know as Hank Williams, was the first super star of country music. Many of his songs became classics and are still sung by numerous artists today. Hank Williams turned country music upside down and tore down its borders which is why he is still a major inspiration for the alternative country movements of the present day.
