The critics have turned on the graying Master of Mope and the early reviews were unusually savage. Perhaps that's because after 1995's inventive and rockin' Southpaw Grammar, the man has run out of steam--an idea underlined by the ho-hum lead track, "Alma Matters." Let's hope rumblings of a reunion with Johnny Marr are true.
